St. Pauls trail - Snow shoe hiking in Taurus Mountains
Snowshoeing in the Taurus Mountains - this trip promises a picturesque landscape: rugged massifs, snow-capped peaks, deep gorges and quaint villages. Here you will find Turkey with its lonely nature, we are almost everywhere on our own and quietly enjoy the panoramic landscape around the third largest lake in Turkey. Within reach of the Paulus Trail we learn much about the mission trip of the Apostle Paul from Perge to Antioch - our tour guide knows exciting things to report!
In the evening we enjoy the hospitality of our host Ibrahim and his family. At the latest you join a cooking lesson, we are finally included in the family. Join us - a week of active experience in one of the most pristine regions of Turkey awaits us!
We have a total of 5 snowshoe hikes. The highlight of the hikes is the
Summit Mt. Barla (2,800 m) or Mt. Dedegöl (2,996 m), as far as snow and weather conditions permit.
On the day off there is the possibility to go to the ski center (free shuttle service to the ski center by our
own minibus). In the ski center it is possible to rent ski equipment. Alternatively, we can visit a traditional hammam in Egirdir or take a trip to the nearby town of Isparta.
You need a good physical condition for walks of 4 - 5 hours (on the summit day 6 hours) walking time. We mostly move at altitudes between 1,300 m and 1,700 m. The height differences in the hikes are +/- 300 m to +/- 700 m. Previous knowledge in snowshoeing is not necessary. For our hiking breaks we get packed lunches in our accommodation. Warm winter gear and gaiters are required, snowshoes and poles are provided.
Example hiking section:
In the Kovada National Park A very varied snowshoe hike takes us above the village of Sipahiler over hills and wide plateaus in the direction of the village of Serpil. In the footsteps of St. Paul we drive to Yukarigökdere. Our hike starts above the village at about 1,300 m at the foot of the Davras massif (2,600 m). It goes through an oak forest, passing the saddle of the Davras at 2,030 m. Through rocky landscapes with wide panoramic views, our hike finally ends at the ski center of Davras.
To Tota we drive to the village of Kasimlar. The hike begins in the village and climbs through fields, then through oak forests past a Roman church ruin, through pine forests to the summit of Mt. Tota. Then we hike down to Tota Alm. From here we drive back to Adada and visit the ruins of the Pisidian, ancient city of Adada.
