HIKING THE LYCIAN WAY IN THE EAST SELF-GUIDED
The Lycian way from Fethiye to Antalya is considered as one of the most beautiful hiking trails in the world. On this trip, you will discover selected stages on the east coast of Lycia. Through the mountainous coastal landscape in the Olympos national park, you hike above the blue-green shining sea and arrive at beautiful swimming bays. They come through vast, mountainous landscapes and through dense forests, where the oriental strawberry tree grows. From the pass at Musa Daği you can enjoy a great view of the towering mountains. At the end of the trip, you will be enchanted by the coastline of Kekova with its countless bays, peninsulas, and islands.
During your hike, you will always meet impressive historical testimonies. Lycians, Greeks, Persians, and Romans also left their mark on the Byzantine era and the Ottoman Empire. The Lycian Mountain Trail takes you past impressive ruins of once flourishing cities of antiquity, now abandoned in the solitary wilderness. The conspicuous tombs of the Lycians are often scattered in the landscape.
1st day: Arrival to Antalya
Transfer to your accommodation in the old town of Antalya.
2nd day: To Ovacık
Transfer to the hike above the village of Gedelme in the mountains of the Olympos National Park. First, you go through high pine forests, then through gorges to an alpine pasture. Enjoy the views of the Tahtalı Dağı (2,370 m) and the sea. Your destination is Ovacık, where you have a wonderful view of the sea and the high mountains of Taurus from your accommodation (WH: 4 hrs.).
3rd day: From Ulupinar to Çirali
Transfer to the valley of Ulupinar. Through pine forests, you hike to the "Burning stones" with its natural earth fire, the "eternal flames of the Chimaira". In ancient times, the fire god Hephaistos was revered by the Greeks. Some ruins still bear witness to this ancient cult.
Finally down into the bay of Çirali, lined with green gardens, with a beautiful sandy beach (WH: 3 hrs).
4th day: Over Olympos to Adrasan
Today, the ruins of the ancient coastal town of Olympos await you. Discover the remains of temples and thermal baths, as well as the Acropolis, which rests on a coastal cliff. Through macchia and deciduous forests with strawberry trees, the path leads up the side of Musa Daği. Here, a trip to the ancient mountain town of Olympos is possible. Past fruit orchards with citrus fruits you reach Adrasan Bay (WH: 5-6 hrs).
5th day: Coast of Kekova
Transfer to Kapakli. From here you start your hike to the ruins of the ancient city of Istlada. Along the beautiful coastal landscape of Kekova and the ancient castle of Simena. The Lycian Way leads you to the small natural port of Üçağiz, where you stay two nights (WH: 3 1/2 hrs).
6th day: Testimonies of the ancient world
Short transfer to the hiking trail above the small village of Kilicli. First, visit the ancient city of Apollonia with its small theater (optional). Through slopes covered with oaks and carob trees, you will walk to the remains of the ancient city of Aperlai. Here, in a long bay between two ridges, an inlet reaches up to the ruins - a beautiful bathing place! On a narrow path along the coast back to Üçağiz (WH: 4 1/2 hrs).
7th day: Myra & Antalya
You will receive a transfer to the ancient city of Myra. Here you see the impressive Lycian rock tombs, which are stuck in a towering rock wall. Afterward, you can visit the Byzantine Basilica of Saint Nicholas in Demre, before returning to Antalya by bus (about 3 hrs). Alternative booking of a transfer is possible (extra cost). Visit the old town of Antalya, the old harbor, or the beautiful parks with view terraces in Antalya.
8th day: Journey home
Transfer to the airport and return flight.
